Medal ratings. What do they mean?
Products are given a Best of the Best, Gold, Silver or Bronze medal rating based on their overall energy savings.
For example if the tool shows “Gold for energy savings” when viewing an 8 kg tumble dryer, this is compared to all 8 kg tumble dryers in the market.
This allows you to see at a glance which are the best rated 8 kg tumble dryers for energy savings.
Personalised to meet your needs
Customise your savings, based on your usage. The tool will calculate savings based on the average usage, lifetime of the product and energy cost. If you use your appliance more or less than the average, customise the tool, as shown and we will generate a saving unique to your household.
Highly efficient appliances
Heat pump tumble dryers are the most energy efficient appliances you can own. Not only are they kind to your clothes, they also don't use a heating element, which saves you energy each time you use it. Drying cycles can take longer, but the savings more than make up for this minor inconvinience.
Save money with energy efficient appliances (50 mo/vol)
Information from official sources is used to calculate the initial average lifetime energy cost. Power consumption, is taken from the product fiche. Average usage and lifespan, is taken from a report by the Energy Savings Trust. Average Tarrif and annual tarriff increases are taken from data published by Eurostat, using historic data from the last 10+ years.
How the saving is calculated
Here is an example calculation of the operating cost in year one for a washing machine:
Description
(A) Power consumption @ 0.66 kWh per cycle
(B) Usage @ 284 cycles per year
(C) Tariff @ 28p per kWh
Electricity cost calculation (A * B * C) / 100 = ÂŁ36.12
The annual increase in electricity costs over 11 years is then applied, which results in a lifetime energy cost of ÂŁ517.58.
